Lot 359:
Sold for: $40
Description
An assortment of United States Army branch insignia and badges, including Combat Infantryman Badges, an Expert Infantryman Badge, and Field Artillery branch pins. The infantry badges are struck in sterling silver and feature a raised silver-tone Springfield Arsenal Model 1795 musket set against a light blue enamel rectangular field. The Combat Infantryman Badges are distinguished by an encircling oak leaf wreath, whereas the Expert Infantryman Badge consists of the musket and enamel field without the wreath. These badges are fitted with clutch-back fasteners. The Field Artillery insignia consists of crossed cannons featuring a black, subdued finish for field use, equipped with pin-back safety fasteners.
The reverse of the Combat Infantryman Badges and the Expert Infantryman Badge are incised with the mark STERLING. No manufacturer marks are visible on the artillery pins.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition. The sterling silver badges exhibit moderate tarnishing and oxidation consistent with age. The blue enamel fields remain largely intact with minor surface scratches and small points of enamel loss visible upon close inspection. The black finish on the artillery pins shows light wear on the raised high points. All fasteners are present and appear to be in functional working order.
