Description

This is a Swedish Model 1896 knife bayonet, a standard-issue edged weapon for the Swedish Mauser rifle. The bayonet is constructed entirely of steel. The blade features a knife profile with a central fuller on both sides and a spear-point tip. The grip is cylindrical and textured with fine diamond-pattern knurling. An integrated pommel contains a spring-loaded push-button locking mechanism designed for attachment to a rifle’s bayonet lug. The crossguard includes a muzzle ring and a short, downward-curving quillon. The accompanying scabbard is made of blued steel, featuring a round frog stud and a ball finial. The blade ricasso is stamped with EJAB. beneath a crown symbol, identifying the maker as Eskilstuna Jernmanufaktur AB. Vertically oriented digits 7 0 0 are also stamped on the ricasso. The opposite ricasso features a small stamped crown, which is a Swedish government ordnance inspection mark. The crossguard bears multiple unit and inventory stampings, including L. I. 7, 1 1 7, 6, and Nº 1 9 5. These markings suggest assignment to the 7th Infantry Regiment (Landstormen).

Condition report:

The item is in good vintage condition. The blade retains a bright finish but shows scattered surface oxidation, dark spotting, and streaks of dried protective grease or cosmoline. The hilt and crossguard exhibit light wear and minor surface pitting consistent with age and service. Small traces of green verdigris are visible within the recessed knurling of the grip. The scabbard shows finish wear and light surface oxidation but remains structurally sound without significant dents.
