Description

This is a Colt New Army & Navy Model double-action revolver chambered in .38 caliber. It is configured with a 6-inch round barrel featuring a fixed blade front sight and a notched rear sight integrated into the top strap. The revolver is equipped with a six-shot swing-out cylinder and smooth walnut grips. The metal surfaces exhibit a heavily worn, mottled grey and brown patina with pervasive areas of surface oxidation and light pitting throughout, particularly on the cylinder and forward sections of the barrel. Key markings include the left side of the barrel stamped COLT. D. A. 38 and the top of the barrel featuring the three-line manufacturer address COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. with patent dates PATENTED AUG. 5, 1884 NOV. 6, 88. MAR. 5, 95. The Rampant Colt logo is clearly visible on the rear left side of the frame. The serial number 260702 is stamped in two lines on the butt of the grip frame as 260 over 702, and internal assembly numbers including 425 on the frame and 287 on the crane are visible. The smooth walnut grips show various dings, scratches, and a dark aged appearance consistent with historical use. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The revolver is in fair condition, showing a complete loss of original finish and a thick, mottled grey and brown patina across all metal surfaces. Significant surface oxidation and patches of light pitting are present, primarily on the cylinder and barrel. The bore was not inspected but the exterior condition suggests significant use. The action appears to function mechanically in both single and double action, with the cylinder swinging out and locking properly, though we have not function-tested this firearm with ammunition. The walnut grips are intact but display numerous service-related indentations and surface wear.
