Lot 464:
Sold for: $40
Description
This is a WWII-era US military firearm cleaning kit, identified as the M1 cleaning rod set used for various small arms and machine guns. The set includes a single-piece steel cleaning rod, two wire bore brushes, and a protective olive drab canvas storage case. The cleaning rod features an integrated T-handle and is finished with a dark parkerized coating. Two wire bore brushes are present, each featuring a threaded base with a green-painted ferrule. The protective storage case is constructed of olive drab canvas with interior partitions to separate the rod from the brushes. The case closure consists of a top flap with a web strap and a metal slide buckle. The front of the canvas case is marked with black ink stamps that read: FUNGUS PROOFED TYPE I / J. C. BUCK CO INC 1945. The Fungus Proofed designation indicates the equipment was treated for durability in tropical environments, a standard practice for late-war equipment intended for the Pacific Theater.
Condition report:
The set is in very good vintage condition. The canvas case remains sturdy with clear and legible manufacturer markings, showing only minor fading and light surface soiling from age. The metal cleaning rod shows typical wear to the parkerized finish and some light surface oxidation but remains structurally sound. The bore brushes appear functional and well-preserved.
