Lot 465:
Sold for: $275
Description
This sporterized British military rifle is chambered in .303 British and was originally manufactured as a standard service arm at the Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley. The barrel measures approximately 25 inches in length and retains its military blade front sight and a flip-up ladder-style rear aperture sight. The metal components exhibit a blackened finish showing moderate thinning and surface wear, particularly on the bolt, receiver, and detachable ten-round box magazine. The original full-length military wood stock has been modified into a sporterized configuration with a shortened fore-end and the removal of the upper handguards. The wood features a glossy refinished appearance with scattered minor dings and scratches consistent with handling. Verbatim markings on the left side of the receiver include Nº4 MKI ROF(F) F.T.R above 1946 Y 297. The barrel shank is stamped with British BNP proof marks, .303, and 18.5 TONS. The rifle is fitted with a brass buttplate with a hinged trapdoor and a magazine floorplate stamped with the number 27513A. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain much of their blackened finish, though thinning and high-edge wear are present on the receiver and bolt assembly. The wood stock is in good structural condition with a glossy varnish over various small indentations and surface marks. The bore is bright with strong, distinct rifling. The bolt action appears to function smoothly and the trigger remains crisp, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The detachable magazine shows thinning finish but is mechanically sound.
