Description

This is a Swedish Model 1914 bayonet and matching steel scabbard, manufactured for use with the Model 1894/14 Mauser carbine. The single-edged steel blade features a deep central fuller on both sides and terminates in a symmetrical spear point. The hilt is constructed with hardwood grip scales secured to the tang by two slotted screws. The steel crossguard includes a muzzle ring and a distinct hooked lower quillon. The pommel features the signature split-top design with a large transverse screw head acting as the release catch mechanism. The ricasso is stamped with the maker mark for Eskilstuna Jernmanufaktur AB (EJAB), appearing as the letters EJ above an anchor and crown symbol, over the letters AB. The accompanying steel scabbard has a teardrop-shaped frog stud on the locket and a round ball finial at the tip. The ball finial is stamped with the digits 1, 4, 2.

Condition report:

The blade remains in good collectible condition, showing a mostly clean surface with minor areas of graying and light spotting from age. The wooden grip scales have darkened over time and show typical minor indentations but remain structurally sound. The steel crossguard and pommel exhibit a dark, aged patina with areas of surface oxidation and light pitting. The steel scabbard shows significant age-related patina and surface oxidation, particularly toward the tip, but retains its original form without major dents. The release catch mechanism is functional.
