Lot 471:
Sold for: $325
Description
This is a Swedish Model 1896 (m/96) bolt action service rifle chambered in 6.5x55mm, configured with a 29 inch barrel and a full-length walnut stock. The receiver bridge is stamped with a crown over CARL GUSTAFS STADS / GEVÄRSFAKTORI. / 1918. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number H.K. 400006, which matches the partial digits 006 found on the bolt handle, bolt shroud, cocking piece, magazine floorplate, and rear sight leaf. The barrel bands and buttplate tang are non-matching components, bearing the numbers 966 and 432 respectively. The steel components feature a primarily blued finish with typical high-edge wear and thinning, while the bolt assembly remains in polished steel. The stock is a one-piece design featuring a straight wrist, finger-grooved forend, and a circular brass identification disc inset on the right side of the butt. Standard military iron sights consist of a front blade and a tangent-leaf rear sight. A metal cleaning rod is fitted into the forend beneath the barrel. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle displays a good amount of its original blued finish with thinning on the barrel and magazine floorplate and silvering at the muzzle. The bolt remains bright with minor surface oxidation. The bore appears bright with crisp rifling. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The wood stock shows numerous small dings, scratches, and compression marks common to military surplus but remains solid with no structural cracks visible.
