Description
A trio of World War II era United States military Carlisle Model first aid packets manufactured by Bauer and Black of Chicago, Illinois. These rectangular metal tins were standard-issue medical equipment intended for field use and typically carried in a specialized canvas pouch on a soldier’s web belt. The collection includes three distinct variations of the model. The first tin is an early-war issue finished in high-visibility red paint. It features embossed text reading: First-Aid Packet, U.S. Govt. CARLISLE MODEL TO OPEN PULL TAPE RED COLOR INDICATES BACK OF DRESSING. PUT OTHER SIDE NEXT TO WOUND. BAUER and BLACK DIV. OF THE KENDALL CO. – CHICAGO. The second tin is an olive drab camouflage version with identical embossed text to the red version, though wear to the finish reveals a copper-toned base metal. The third tin is a later olive drab version embossed with: FIRST AID PACKET U.S. ARMY CARLISLE MODEL (TO OPEN PULL TAPE) RED PAPER INDICATES BACK OF DRESSING PUT OTHER SIDE NEXT TO WOUND. BAUER and BLACK – CHICAGO U.S.A. PATENTED NOV. 21. 1922. All three units appear to be unopened and retain their original metal pull-tape seals.
Condition report:
All three items show significant field wear consistent with age and historical use. The red tin exhibits heavy paint loss and chipping across the lid and sides with surface oxidation. The olive drab U.S. Gov\'t tin shows extensive paint wear revealing the underlying metal. The olive drab U.S. Army tin has moderate paint loss and minor surface oxidation. All three tins remain sealed with pull-tapes intact.
