Description
A set of six military folding can openers manufactured by the Shelby Co. These tools, widely recognized by the designations P-38 and P-51, served as a standard piece of field equipment for members of the United States Armed Forces. Each unit is constructed from stamped metal and features a hinged, triangular cutting blade that folds flat against the rectangular handle for compact storage. The handle is designed with two horizontal reinforcing ribs for increased structural rigidity and grip during use. A small circular aperture is located at the tapered end for attachment to a key ring or dog tag chain. Each tool is embossed with the manufacturer mark US SHELBY CO in capital block letters.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition, showing typical signs of service wear and age. Surface characteristics include light scratches and minor wear to the metal finish across all pieces. One example exhibits localized surface oxidation near the lanyard hole. The folding hinges on all items are intact and fully functional.
