Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 497:
Sold for: $95
Description
This is a single tapered rifle barrel designed for use with a Winchester Model 1895 lever action rifle, chambered for the .30-40 Krag cartridge. The barrel measures 29.25 inches in length and features a threaded breech end and a blued finish. The upper surface of the barrel is equipped with two small mounting screws, likely intended for a scope base or rear sight assembly. Near the muzzle, there is a rectangular recessed dovetail area for a front sight, which is currently missing. Key markings include the caliber designation 30 U.S.A. stamped on the side of the barrel. The underside near the breech is stamped with a script P proof mark, a small circular indentation, and the characters 6 and a numeral 7 with a horizontal strike-through. The blued finish shows thinning and minor surface wear commensurate with age and use.
Condition report:
The blued finish shows moderate thinning and wear, with silvering visible at the muzzle and along the taper. The recessed area for the front sight dovetail exhibits some surface oxidation and evidence of previous mounting. The threaded breech appears to be in good condition with well-defined threads. External metal surfaces show minor handling marks and light oxidation but are generally smooth. Bore condition was not evaluated.
