Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 502:
Sold for: $50
Description
This lot consists of 100 rounds of Greek military surplus 7.92x57mm Mauser ammunition, organized into five original 20-round cardboard boxes. The ammunition features the sS (schweres Spitzgeschoß) heavy pointed bullet loading, utilizing a lead-core full metal jacket projectile seated in a brass cartridge case with a weight of approximately 198 grains. Box markings are printed in black ink and read 20 / 7,9 sS / P.C.H. / 1940. Verbatim headstamp markings include the Greek letters Epsilon, Kappa, and Lambda arranged around the primer, which is protected by a black sealant ring. These markings identify the manufacturer as Poudrerie et Cartoucherie Hellénique, also known as the Greek Powder and Cartridge Company. This ammunition was manufactured in 1940, consistent with Greek military procurement during the early stages of World War II.
Condition report:
The five cardboard boxes show moderate age-appropriate wear, including frayed edges, light staining, and minor tearing at the flaps, but they remain overall intact and legible. The ammunition cartridges exhibit tarnish on the brass cases and surface oxidation on the copper-jacketed bullet tips. Primers appear to be in stable condition with original sealant present. This ammunition is vintage surplus and is sold as a collectible item; the cartridges appear to be live, but have not been test-fired for functionality.
