Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 536:
Sold for: $65
Description
This lot comprises 60 rounds of 8mm Mauser ammunition, specifically the 7.92x57mm cartridge loaded with the sS (schweres Spitzgeschoß) heavy pointed bullet, intended for use in service rifles. The ammunition was manufactured by Patronen-, Zündhütchen- und Metallwarenfabrik A.G. under the manufacturer code P.C.H. and is accompanied by two original cardboard storage boxes. These cartridges feature brass cases and copper-jacketed pointed projectiles. Key markings include the designation 20 / 7,9 sS / P.C.H. / 1940 within a black rectangular border on the box containers. Cartridge headstamp markings specify the manufacturer code P.C.H., the date codes 39 and 40, star symbols, and various numerical lot codes including 1, 3, 4, and 10. Many of the primers are seated with a distinctive black sealant ring.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in vintage condition with the brass cases exhibiting varying degrees of surface tarnish and minor oxidation consistent with age. The copper jackets of the projectiles show some darkening but remain intact. The original cardboard containers show shelf wear, including minor fraying at the edges and light staining, though all printed information remains clearly legible. The primers appear to be well-seated. This ammunition appears live; however, as we have not function-tested these rounds, their reliability is not guaranteed and they should be examined by a qualified professional before any attempt at use.
