Description

This is a sporterized bolt-action rifle built on a U.S. Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 receiver. The rifle is chambered for the .30-06 Springfield cartridge and features a 24 inch barrel with a blued finish and a ramped front blade sight. The receiver is fitted into an attractive walnut sporter stock with a Monte Carlo comb, a right-hand cheekpiece, and a POINTER PAD rubber recoil pad from Southwest Cutlery & Mfg. Co. of Montebello, California. Mounted to the receiver is a Weaver K4 telescopic sight featuring a post and crosshair reticle, secured by a vintage Stith-style mount. The bolt handle has been swept back to provide clearance for the optic. Prominent markings on the receiver bridge include U.S. ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL MODEL 1903 and the serial number 144083. The Weaver scope is marked WEAVER K4 PATENTED EL PASO TEX U.S.A. alongside a diamond-shaped logo. The stock features two sling swivels for field carry. This rifle represents a classic mid-20th-century American sporting conversion of a military surplus firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The blued finish shows moderate wear and thinning on the high edges of the receiver and barrel, with some scattered light surface oxidation and handling marks present. The walnut stock is in good overall condition, exhibiting various dings, scratches, and impressions consistent with age and use. The rubber POINTER PAD recoil pad shows significant age-related deterioration, including deep cracking and hardening of the material. The action appears to function correctly and the bolt moves smoothly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The bore was not inspected. The Weaver K4 optics remain relatively clear and the reticle is well-defined.
