Description

A Brazilian Model 1908 Mauser bayonet and matching scabbard, manufactured by Weyersberg Kirschbaum and Co. of Solingen, Germany, for use with the Model 1908 Mauser rifle. The bayonet features a polished steel single-edged blade with a deep, squared-off fuller extending approximately two-thirds of its length. The hilt is constructed with a steel crossguard incorporating a muzzle ring and a bird’s head-style pommel with a T-O mounting slot and functional spring-loaded release button. The grip consists of two polished wood panels secured to the tang by two flush steel rivets. The obverse ricasso is stamped with the manufacturer’s mark in three lines: WEYERSBERG, KIRSCHBAUM and CO, and SOLINGEN. The reverse ricasso bears two circular Brazilian military inspection stamps, including a stylized five-petaled star and a smaller circular acceptance mark. The crossguard is stamped with the serial number D 7641. The accompanying scabbard is made of blued steel and includes a teardrop-shaped frog stud and a ball finial at the tip.

Blade length: 12 inches.

Condition report:

This bayonet is in excellent original condition. The blade is very clean and retains its original factory finish with visible cross-graining, showing only light oxidation and staining on the ricasso near the crossguard. The wood grips are intact with minor handling marks, small indentations, and light scratches. The steel crossguard and pommel maintain a bright finish with light, scattered surface oxidation. The scabbard\'s blued finish is largely intact, showing minor thinning at the edges and light surface scuffing. The rifle mounting mechanism is fully functional.
