Description
One Swedish Mauser Model 1896/38 bolt-action rifle chambered in 6.5x55mm, representing a military conversion from the Model 1896 long rifle configuration. The rifle features a shortened barrel with a threaded muzzle currently fitted with a slotted hider device. The receiver bridge is clearly marked with a Swedish crown over a stylized C, followed by the manufacturer CARL GUSTAFS STADS, GEVÄRSFAKTORI., and the manufacturing date 1915. The left side of the receiver bears the serial number H.K. 340155, and the barrel is stamped with the import markings C.A.I. ST. ALB. VT. and M38 SWEDEN 6.5X55. The metal surfaces retain a blued finish on the receiver, barrel, and magazine components, while the bolt assembly remains polished in the white. Key components including the bolt shroud, bolt sleeve, floorplate, buttplate, and barrel bands are stamped with the matching partial serial number 155 alongside Swedish crown proof marks. The wood stock exhibits minor dings and scratches consistent with service use and is fitted with a standard brass two-screw identification disc. This specimen is equipped with a turned-down bolt handle, a cleaning rod, and a Västerås micrometric rear sight adapter marked METALLVERKEN VÄSTERÅS SV. PAT. 90944. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle presents in used but well-maintained condition, retaining approximately 75-85% of its original blued finish with thinning and light silvering at the muzzle, bolt handle, and high points of the receiver. The wood stock is solid with various small dings, shallow scratches, and handling marks typical of military service, but is free of significant cracks or repairs. The bore was not inspected internally but the crown remains protected. The bolt-action appears to function smoothly with positive engagement, and all visible serial numbers are matching. The Västerås sight adapter is intact and appears functional.
