Description

This Japanese Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action rifle, produced at the Nagoya Arsenal, is chambered in 7.7x58mm and features a modified sporterized configuration. The receiver bridge displays three incised Japanese characters transcribed as Kyu-kyu-shiki or Type 99, situated below a circular ground area where the Imperial Chrysanthemum was formerly present. The left side of the receiver is stamped with the serial number 66428, accompanied by an 8th series mark and the Nagoya Arsenal symbol. The rifle is equipped with a hooded front sight and an adjustable rear ladder sight graduated from 3 to 15, representing 300 to 1,500 meters; notably, the anti-aircraft lead wings are missing from this assembly. The wooden stock has been sporterized with the forend shortened and finished in a high-gloss reddish-brown, secured by a single mid-barrel band and featuring side-mounted sling swivels. The metal surfaces exhibit a blued finish that shows significant thinning and surface wear throughout. The bolt is fitted with a cylindrical handle typical of mid-to-late production models. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The rifle is in fair to good condition, showing characteristic wear from service and subsequent sporterization. The blued finish on the metal components is thin with visible surface wear and areas of light oxidation, particularly on the barrel and the buttplate. The sporterized wooden stock has a high-gloss finish with minor handling marks and dings visible. The rear sight is functional but missing the original anti-aircraft wings. The action appears to function correctly, though this firearm has not been function-tested for safety or firing. The bore shows darkening with visible rifling.
