Lot 631:
A Lot of 19 Steyr Mannlicher M1895 En Bloc Clips and 25 Rounds of 8x56mmR Ammunition WWII Era
Sold for: $100
Description
This lot features nineteen stamped steel en bloc clips and twenty-five rounds of 8x56mmR caliber ammunition designed for use in the Steyr-Mannlicher M1895 straight-pull rifle. The ammunition consists of five loaded clips each containing five rounds, totaling twenty-five rounds of rimmed brass-cased cartridges with pointed silver-jacketed spitzer bullets. The remaining fourteen clips are empty. The clips are presented in both windowed and solid-sided variations with finishes varying between original bluing and matte gray. Notable manufacturer markings are visible on several clips; specifically, a monogram of a stylized intertwined G and R within a circle and a German National Emblem featuring an eagle clutching a wreath with a swastika, which indicates Austrian production and subsequent military use during the period following the 1938 Anschluss.
Condition report:
The steel clips are in overall good condition, exhibiting varied levels of original finish with areas of surface oxidation and thinning consistent with military use. The ammunition appears to be live military surplus and remains in good condition, though some brass cases exhibit patches of green verdigris where they have been in prolonged contact with the steel clips. The cartridges have not been function tested.
