Lot 658:
Sold for: $120
Description
This lot features a collection of 140 rounds of vintage .30 caliber rifle ammunition housed in seven original 20-round cardboard boxes. The grouping includes six boxes of match-grade ammunition and one box of military ball ammunition. Five of the match-grade boxes were produced at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant or Lake City Ordnance Plant and are designated as M72, with lot numbers including LC 12200 dated 1963, LC 12218 dated 1965, and LC 12246 dated 1967. The sixth match box is a Frankford Arsenal T291 variant labeled Lot FA 32 and dated 1958. Verbatim markings on the match boxes include CALIBER .30 MATCH, M72, LOT LC, BULLET 173 GRAINS, and VELOCITY 2640 F.P.S. The Frankford box specifies FRANKFORD ARSENAL and T291. The final box in the collection is labeled 20 CARTRIDGES BALL CALIBER .30 M 2, from the Lake City Arsenal, Lot LC 39212. Cartridge headstamps visible in the opened 1965 box are marked L C 6 5 MATCH. The ammunition is configured with brass casings and appears to be in its original factory state.
Condition report:
The ammunition and its original cardboard packaging are in good vintage condition. The boxes show light to moderate storage wear, including some minor corner crushing, handwritten inventory numbers, and small adhesive price tags. One box has been opened to display the cartridges. The brass casings remain bright with only minor surface oxidation or tarnishing consistent with long-term storage. Primers on the match rounds show original purple sealant. The ammunition appears to be live, though it has not been test-fired, and the chemical stability of the powder cannot be guaranteed.
