Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 661:
Sold for: $120
Description
This lot features an Indian Pattern No. 1 Mk II* bayonet and a matching steel scabbard, manufactured for use with the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III* rifle. The bayonet is constructed with a shortened steel blade measuring approximately 12 inches in length. It features a single fuller on each side and terminates in a distinct clip-point tip with a sharpened false edge. The ricasso is stamped with the vertically oriented characters R.F.I., identifying the manufacturer as the Rifle Factory Ishapore in India. The metal surfaces of the blade, hilt, and scabbard exhibit a consistent dark blackened or blued finish. The hilt is composed of a steel crossguard with a muzzle ring, a steel pommel with a standard T-shaped mounting slot, and two-piece wooden grip scales. The grips are secured by two slotted screws and nuts. The accompanying all-steel scabbard features a rounded chape and a standard mounting stud for a belt frog.
Condition report:
The bayonet and scabbard are in excellent overall condition, likely representing an arsenal-refurbished or unissued state. The blackened finish remains mostly intact across all components, showing only light surface wear and minor handling marks. Wood grip scales are well-preserved with a deep reddish-brown color and no cracks or significant chips. The spring-loaded locking mechanism in the pommel is fully functional. The steel scabbard is straight without notable dents or deformations.
