Description
This sporterized Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 bolt action rifle is chambered in .30-06 Springfield and has been modified from its original military configuration for sporting purposes. The rifle features a 24-inch replacement barrel manufactured by High Standard, retaining a worn blued finish, while the receiver exhibits a heavily mottled, grayed patina with signs of past oxidation and light pitting. The firearm is mounted in a custom sporter-style walnut stock that includes a raised cheekpiece, integrated sling swivels, and a checkered metal buttplate. Sighting is provided by a front blade on a banded ramp and a Lyman receiver aperture sight mounted to the right side of the bridge. Key markings include the receiver bridge, which is stamped verbatim “U.S. / ROCK ISLAND / ARSENAL. / MODEL 1903.” above the serial number “106058”. The barrel is marked near the muzzle with “H.S.” above a flaming bomb ordnance symbol and the date “5 44”. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metalwork shows wear consistent with age and field use, with the barrel retaining approximately 60% of its blued finish and the receiver displaying a heavily mottled gray surface with scattered spots of light pitting and oxidation. The walnut stock is in fair to good condition, showing numerous dings, scratches, and compression marks, particularly around the grip and forend, though it remains structurally sound. The bore has not been inspected. The action appears to cycle smoothly and the receiver sight is functional, although we have not function-tested or live-fire tested this firearm.
