Description
This is a single Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen bolt action training rifle chambered in .22 LR. The rifle features a round barrel with a thinning blued finish and a blade front sight mounted on a ramp. The original military style rear tangent sight is missing from the barrel, though its original mounting holes remain visible. The receiver is fitted with a vintage micrometer-adjustable aperture sight and exhibits a mature patina with scattered surface oxidation and light pitting. The characteristic side-loading magazine box features a notably glossier black finish than the surrounding components. The smooth walnut stock includes a finger-groove forend, a single steel barrel band with an integral sling swivel, and a boxed inspector’s cartouche on the left side of the wrist. It is finished with a steel buttplate featuring a hinged trapdoor. Prominent markings on the left side of the receiver include U.S. MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. 476562 CAL. .22 which identifies the model, manufacturer, and serial number. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish on the barrel and receiver shows significant thinning, with generalized surface oxidation and light pitting throughout. The magazine door appears to have been refinished with a high-gloss black coating. The walnut stock is in good used condition, exhibiting typical handling marks, shallow scratches, and dings consistent with its history as a training arm. The inspector\'s cartouche is visible though slightly worn. The action appears to function smoothly, although the firearm has not been function-tested or test-fired. The bore was not inspected. The rear barrel sight is missing.
