Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 697:
Sold for: $160
Description
This lot features 100 Rounds Of 8mm Mauser Ammunition, specifically the 8x56mmR rimmed cartridge intended for the Mannlicher M.30 and M.35 rifles, comprised of ten original cardboard boxes and two five-round blackened steel en-bloc clips. The ammunition was manufactured by Gustloff-Werke at the Hirtenberg facility in Austria, as evidenced by the manufacturer code P 635 and German military acceptance stamps. Verbatim box labels read 10 Stück 8 mm M. 30 scharfe S-Patronen with various production dates including 1936, XII. 1938, and II. 1939. One box retains a Bulgarian label translated as FOR MANNLICHER RIFLE COMBAT CARTRIDGES from the town of Barut. The cartridges are constructed with brass cases and copper-jacketed spire point bullets; a representative headstamp displays an eagle symbol at the twelve o’clock position, the digits 19 at three o’clock, the Roman numerals VIII at six o’clock, and the digits 38 at nine o’clock, indicating production in August 1938.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes show age-appropriate storage wear, including minor edge tears, staining, and surface abrasions, though the primary text and dates remain clear. The two en-bloc clips retain most of their blackened finish with minimal thinning. The brass cartridge cases and copper jackets exhibit a light, even surface patina consistent with vintage military surplus, with no evidence of significant corrosion or mechanical damage. The ammunition appears to be in live condition.
