Description

This is a commercially sporterized Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I bolt-action rifle, chambered in .303 British and converted by the Golden State Arms Corporation as part of their Santa Fe Special line. The rifle features a 22-inch barrel that has been fitted with a hooded front post and a standard flip-up military rear peep sight. The metal surfaces exhibit a blued finish, and the left side of the receiver has been drilled and tapped with three holes for a potential scope mount. The rifle is equipped with a two-piece wooden stock that has been modified into a sporter configuration with a shortened forend, standard pistol grip, and a brass buttplate featuring a hinged storage compartment for a cleaning kit. Key markings include the model designation No 4 Mk I on the left receiver wall and the manufacturer information SANTA FE SPECIAL / SANTA FE DIV. GOLDEN STATE ARMS CORP. / PASADENA, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A. roll-marked on the barrel. The receiver socket is stamped ENGLAND above the date 1943 and the serial number 27169A. British Nitro Proof (BNP) marks under a crown are visible on the receiver and barrel. The rifle includes a 10-round detachable box magazine and front and rear sling swivels. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The metal finish shows moderate wear and thinning throughout, particularly at the muzzle, receiver edges, and high points of the bolt handle. There are scattered light scratches and small areas of surface oxidation and discoloration consistent with field use. The wood stock is in good condition with typical handling marks, dings, and surface impressions, but remains structurally sound with an attractive grain. The bore was not inspected but the action appears to function correctly through manual cycling. We have not function-tested this firearm. The brass buttplate has developed a dark natural patina with some minor scuffs.
