Description

This is a single Belgian manufactured flintlock musket produced in the pattern of the United States Model 1816/1822 intended for military use or the export trade. The firearm features a smoothbore barrel with a dark patinated finish secured to the stock by three brass barrel bands. The lock assembly is constructed of steel and includes a reinforced cock and a brass pan. The furniture is comprised of brass components including the buttplate, trigger guard, side plate, and barrel bands, all showing an aged patina. The full length hardwood stock has a dark reddish brown finish with a straight comb and an integrated ramrod channel housing a metal ramrod. Sights include a small brass blade mounted on the front barrel band. Key markings include the stamp MADE IN BELGIUM on the top breech. The left side of the breech displays Belgian Liege proof marks specifically the letters E, L, and G within a circle over a star, a crown over a symbol, and the number 138. The lock plate shows a faint and worn engraving of an eagle motif. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.

Condition report:

The metal surfaces exhibit a consistent dark patina with areas of minor surface oxidation and light pitting consistent with age. The brass components show a mellow unpolished tarnish throughout. The hardwood stock is in good overall condition displaying various scratches, dings, and minor wood loss typical of historical use but appears structurally sound with a well preserved finish. The action appears to function correctly and holds at both half and full cock though the firearm has not been function tested with live ammunition. The bore is dark with some visible debris and oxidation.
