Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 707:
Sold for: $75
Description
This is an original period-produced rifle stock for the Mauser Karabiner 98k (Kar98k), the standard service rifle of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. The stock is constructed from solid walnut wood, a feature typically associated with pre-war and early-war production before the widespread adoption of laminated beech wood. The stock features standard military inletting for the Kar98k bolt-action receiver and barrel. It includes several integrated metal components: a steel recoil lug cross-bolt, a circular bolt disassembly disc embedded in the buttstock, and a flat steel buttplate. The forend is smooth without finger grooves. The stock has been stripped of its barrel, handguard, barrel bands, and trigger guard assembly. Small indentations consistent with military inspection stamps are present in the interior action inletting but are not clearly legible.
Condition report:
The stock is in good used condition, exhibiting an aged patina on the walnut wood. There are numerous surface dings, small scratches, and handling marks throughout, consistent with field use and long-term storage. The metal components show a darkened patina with areas of surface oxidation. The wood remains structurally sound with no large cracks or visible repairs observed.
