Lot 722:
Sold for: $45
Description
This lot includes three United States military mess kits and a collection of field utensils, representing equipment used from the World War I era through the Vietnam War. Each mess kit includes a deep oval pan with a folding handle and a nesting lid. One mess kit is a World War I M1918 pattern with a solid lid, featuring a handle stamped U S, L F & C, and 1918. Two mess kits are the M1942 pattern with two-compartment divided lids. One M1942 kit is stamped on the handle with DSA-4-055580-TR530, Carrollton Mfg. Co., and U.S., indicating mid-1960s production. The assortment of utensils follows the standard military pattern with hanging holes at the ends of the handles. Most pieces are stamped with U.S. or U S on the handles. The group includes several spoons, forks, and knives. Materials consist primarily of aluminum and stainless steel, with some knives featuring carbon steel blades.
Condition report:
The items are in military surplus condition showing signs of field use. The aluminum mess kit components have surface scratches, small dents, and scuffing throughout. Folding handles are in working order. The utensils show varying levels of tarnish and wear. One knife remains in relatively clean condition, while the other two knives exhibit significant surface rust and pitting on the blades. The WWI kit displays a darker patina consistent with age.
