Description

This is a single Swedish Mauser Model 1896 bolt-action service rifle chambered in 6.5x55mm. The rifle features a 29-inch barrel with a threaded muzzle designed for a blank-firing adapter, though the thread protector is currently absent. The metal components exhibit a mixture of original blued finish on the barrel and hardware with a polished steel receiver and bolt assembly. The rifle is mounted in a smooth one-piece wood stock featuring finger grooves, a bayonet lug, and a standard brass military identification disc inset into the right side of the buttstock. Sighting is provided by a front blade and a tangent rear sight that has been upgraded with a Västerås micro-adjustable insert. Key markings include the receiver ring stamped with a crown over a stylized C crest above CARL GUSTAFS STADS GEVARSFAKTORI. 1907. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number JV 210147, and matching partial serial numbers 147 are found on the bolt components, barrel bands, and buttplate. Import markings near the muzzle specify CAI ST ALB VT and M96 6.5X55 SWEDEN. The cleaning rod is present beneath the barrel. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The metal finish is in good condition for a military surplus firearm, showing general thinning to the bluing, silvering on high edges, and scattered light surface scratches and handling wear. The polished receiver and bolt show minor staining and oxidation but remain bright. The wood stock is in good, solid condition with numerous dings, compression marks, and scratches consistent with service use, though no major cracks are visible. The bore was not inspected but the exterior suggests proper maintenance. The bolt action appears to cycle smoothly and the mechanical components appear to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
