Lot 728:
Sold for: $120
Description
This lot consists of three United States military canteens with canvas covers and two web utility belts from the WWII era. The collection includes two M1910-style canteen covers in OD #3 khaki and one in OD #7 olive drab. All covers are constructed of heavy cotton duck with lift-the-dot snap fasteners and wire belt hooks. One of the khaki covers is personalized with the initials DKW hand-written in black ink on the front flap. The lot includes two aluminum canteens and one aluminum canteen cup. One canteen is stamped on the base with U.S. E.A. CO. 1945, identifying it as manufactured by the Eaton Aluminum Co. The canteen cup features a folding L-shaped handle and is stamped on the base with U.S. VOLLRATH 1944. The canteens are fitted with different styles of screw caps, including a black plastic version and a textured resin or Bakelite version. The two belts include one M1936-style pistol or utility belt in OD #3 and one in OD #7. Both belts are made of heavy cotton webbing with three rows of metal grommets for equipment attachment and metal buckles. One belt features a partial, faded manufacturer stamp that includes the text MADE IN.
Condition report:
The items are in used, military surplus condition with evidence of authentic field wear. The canvas covers and web belts show typical fading, staining, and fraying at the edges. Metal hardware on the belts, including grommets and buckles, shows surface oxidation and blooming. The aluminum canteens and cup exhibit surface scratches, minor dings, and oxidation. The screw caps are intact but show surface wear consistent with age. The hand-applied personalization on one cover remains clearly legible.
