Description

This lot consists of three US military field mess kits and two sets of field utensils, representing equipment used from World War II through the Cold War. Each mess kit is designed with an oval cooking pan featuring a folding handle that secures a divided lid, which functions as a serving plate. One mess kit is constructed of aluminum and features a handle stamped U.S., A.P. CO., and 1942, identifying it as a M-1942 pattern manufactured by the Aluminum Products Company during World War II. A second kit is made of stainless steel with a handle stamped U.S., SMP 18789 1982, and Defense Logistics Agency contract number DLA 400-82-C-1012, indicating production by Stainless Metals Products in 1982. The third mess kit is a matching stainless steel model. The accompanying field cutlery includes two sets of three pieces, totaling six pieces. Each set includes a spoon, fork, and knife, all stamped with U.S. on the handles. The utensils feature the standard cutout design used for nesting the set together or hanging for field drying.

Condition report:

The collection is in good vintage condition with signs of authentic military service. The 1942 dated aluminum mess kit shows heavier patina, surface oxidation, and minor pitting consistent with its age. The stainless steel components exhibit typical surface scratches and minor scuffs from use. All folding handles, hinges, and nesting hardware are functional and intact.
