Description
This vintage metal lunch box is manufactured by Aladdin Industries, Incorporated, based on the 1968 Irwin Allen science fiction television series Land of the Giants. The construction is lithographed tin-plated steel featuring a green plastic handle and a metal toggle latch. The front panel illustrates a scene with characters being attacked by a giant white cat near the Spindrift spacecraft. The reverse panel depicts a giant man in eyeglasses holding one of the small characters. Side panels feature various scenes including characters interacting with oversized spools of thread, escaping a large car tire, and confronting a giant snake. One side panel displays headshot portraits of the main cast members. The interior lid retains an original paper Safety First instructional label from the Child Safety Campaign of the National Safety Council. Marks on the front and back lower left read © 1968 Kent Productions 20th Century Fox Film Corp. Marks on the front and back lower right read ALADDIN INDUSTRIES, INCORPORATED NASHVILLE, TENN. The interior label is also marked Aladdin Industries, Incorporated Nashville, Tennessee. This lot includes the lunch box only; the original matching vacuum bottle is not present.
Condition report:
The item is in well-used vintage condition with significant wear. The exterior shows notable paint loss and scuffing along the edges and corners, with several scratches on the main panels. Oxidation and surface rust are present on the exposed metal areas, including the latch, lid rim, and handle hardware. The interior exhibits heavy oxidation and rust staining on the floor and side walls, along with dark blue ink-like stains in the corners and along the back seam. The interior paper label is intact but shows yellowing and minor wear. The metal latch is fully functional despite heavy surface rust. The plastic handle remains intact.
