Description
This lot consists of two original cardboard ammunition boxes manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal containing 20 live rounds and 20 empty brass casings. The cartridges are .38 caliber revolver ball rounds designed for use with smokeless powder. The buff-colored cardboard boxes feature printed labels identifying the contents as 20 CALIBER .38 REVOLVER BALL CARTRIDGES, RELOADING and include detailed instructions for cleaning the fired cases to facilitate their reuse. Key markings on the labels include Manufactured at the FRANKFORD ARSENAL. The brass casings feature headstamps marked with F A and specific year codes including 09, 10, 11, and 12, corresponding to production at the Philadelphia-based arsenal between 1909 and 1912. The live rounds are fitted with lead round-nose bullets. The boxes show age-appropriate wear including staining, edge fraying, and partial label loss. Note – As an antique item, this ammunition lot does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two cardboard boxes exhibit significant wear, with notable staining, frayed edges, and partial loss of the printed paper labels. The 20 live cartridges show a natural aged patina on the brass and oxidation on the lead bullets. The 20 empty brass casings show typical tarnish and carbon residue from firing; the primers on these casings have been struck. The contents appear stable for collector display. We have not function-tested this ammunition.
