Description
This single lever-action hammerless sporting rifle is identified by its markings as a Savage Model 99 chambered in .300 Savage. The rifle is built with a solid-frame receiver and a round barrel featuring a ramped front blade sight and an adjustable rear sporting leaf sight. Notable markings include SAVAGE MODEL 99 on the receiver ring and the serial number 336461 stamped on the underside of the frame, with an additional hand-etched number X19540 visible just above the factory serial. The top of the barrel is stamped SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION UTICA, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. and .300 SAVAGE followed by an (SP) proof mark, while the left side of the barrel reads HI-PRESSURE STEEL—PROOF TESTED. The firearm is stocked in checkered walnut with a matching forearm and has been modified with an aftermarket Western Field branded ventilated rubber recoil pad. The receiver has been further modified with three holes drilled and tapped into the left side for a side-mount scope base. The rifle is equipped with two sling swivel studs and the action appears to function correctly. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish has largely transitioned to a mottled greyish-brown patina on the receiver and lever, while the barrel retains a higher percentage of its original bluing with some thinning, minor oxidation, and scattered handling marks. The checkered walnut stock and forearm show moderate wear including various dings, scratches, and some finish loss consistent with field use, though no major cracks are visible. The aftermarket recoil pad is intact but shows age-related hardening. The bore is bright with well-defined rifling and the action appears to operate smoothly. We have not function-tested this firearm.
