Description
This lot consists of 300 rounds of Western Super-X .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition. The collection is housed in six original yellow and blue cardboard boxes, each containing 50 cartridges. The packaging is marked for long range use and features technical specifications indicating the use of Double Action Smokeless Powder and Lubaloy hollow point bullets which are wax coated. Verbatim markings on the boxes include Western Super-X, 22 Long Rifle (H.P.), Long Range, Extra Clean, and Wax Coated. Side panels provide additional detail, stating that the Lubaloy hollow point bullets are plated by a patented process and are non-corrosive. The cartridges feature a mix of brass-cased and nickel-plated variants, both utilizing copper-plated hollow point projectiles. The cartridge headstamps are embossed with the letters S, U, P, E, R on a central horizontal bar overlaid on a large letter X.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes show moderate shelf wear and aging, with fraying at the edges, corner softening, and surface discoloration consistent with long-term storage. The ammunition exhibits a range of conditions; while the brass-cased cartridges show minor surface tarnish, the nickel-plated cartridges in the opened box display significant surface oxidation and corrosion, manifesting as heavy white and green crusting. The copper-plated bullets also show varying degrees of oxidation and dulling. The ammunition appears to be live.
