Description
This lot consists of a set of flintlock kit pistols presented as a cased pair of smoothbore muzzle-loading firearms. Each pistol features a long, round steel barrel fitted with a simple bead front sight and a notched rear sight mounted on the tang. The ignition system consists of a steel side-lock mechanism with a cock holding a flint secured in a leather wrap, a steel frizzen, and a flash pan, all exhibiting a natural aged patina. The dark wood stocks are shaped with a distinctive semi-saw-handle style grip providing a ergonomic hold and are accented with steel side plates and simple steel trigger guards. No manufacturer markings, model designations, proof marks, or serial numbers are visible on the exterior surfaces of the barrels or locks, which is consistent with kit-built firearms of this type. The set is housed in a rectangular, leather-covered presentation case featuring an illustrated double-hemisphere world map on the lid and brass tack ornamentation. The interior is lined with red velvet and contoured to fit the pair, though the lid is currently detached and shows significant wear. A loose brass drop handle is included with the lot. Condition report:
The pistols are in fair overall condition, showing significant surface oxidation and heavy pitting across the steel barrels, locks, and trigger guards. The dark wood stocks exhibit numerous dings, scratches, and areas of finish wear consistent with age and handling. The bores are uncleaned and show significant oxidation. The lock actions appear to be functional but have not been formally function-tested for safety or timing. The presentation case is in poor condition with the lid detached, heavy scuffing to the leather, and peeling to the decorative map illustration. One brass handle is detached but present.
