Description
This lot contains a total of 46 ammunition items consisting of 26 live rounds and 20 empty brass casings, all chambered in .44-40 Winchester. Also designated as .44 WCF, these cartridges feature 225-grain cast lead bullets and were originally designed for use in early American rifles and revolvers. The collection is housed in a vintage-style blue Winchester cardboard box that originally held 50 cartridges. The packaging displays various prominent markings including 50 CARTRIDGES, .44 WCF, CENTRAL FIRE, CAST LEAD, the red stylized Winchester logo, and 44-40 WIN. 225 GRAIN CAST LEAD. One end flap is marked with the product code CB4440W. The side of the box features an illustration of a Winchester Model 1873 lever-action rifle and descriptive text regarding the historical heritage of the cartridges. Each cartridge headstamp is verbatim marked WINCHESTER 44-40 WIN. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The brass casings exhibit a natural golden patina with light surface oxidation and tarnish consistent with age and storage. The 225-grain cast lead bullets show a uniform dull gray patina and appear securely seated. The blue cardboard box is in fair condition, showing significant wear, corner crushing, tears along the flap seams, and remnants of old adhesive tape. The printed graphics and text remain legible throughout. The ammunition appears to be in collectible condition.
