Description
This chromolithograph, titled Sheridans Ride, is after an original work by Thure de Thulstrup (1848-1930). The scene depicts General Philip Sheridan on his famous black charger, Rienzi, rallying retreating Union troops during the Battle of Cedar Creek on October 19, 1864. The print is signed in the plate at the lower left THULSTRUP. and the title is printed in the lower margin. According to a tag on the verso, the piece was published by L. Prang and Co. of Boston with a copyright date of 1886. The print is housed in an oak frame with a beaded gilt inner liner.
Condition report:
The print exhibits overall toning consistent with age. A vertical crease or possible repaired tear is visible in the lower-center foreground. The frame shows minor shelf wear with small nicks to the edges and minor losses to the gilded border.
