Description
A mallard drake duck decoy featuring a textured cork body and a carved wooden head. The head is finished with matte green paint, a white neck ring, and inset amber-colored glass eyes. The body is painted with a chestnut breast and grayish plumage, including hand-painted black vermiculation on the back. A white-painted wooden keel is attached to the flat underside. The construction and materials are consistent with the style of coastal working decoys from the mid-20th century, such as those produced by L.L. Bean or The Decoy Shop of Freeport, Maine. No maker marks, brands, or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The decoy exhibits signs of age and field use, including general surface wear and accumulated dirt. There is a small paint chip on the neck and minor scuffing on the bill. The cork body shows natural pitting and surface irregularities characteristic of the material.
