Description
A lot of 16 vintage .44 Bull Dog central fire cartridges manufactured by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This lot features 170-grain lead bullets housed in brass cases, contained within their original two-piece green labeled box. Verbatim markings on the top label include .44 BULL DOG, 50 CENTRAL FIRE CARTRIDGES, 170 GRS. BULLET, and the company designation REMINGTON ARMS-UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE Co. AMMUNITION & FIREARMS UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE WORKS BRIDGEPORT, CONN. U.S.A. along with the red circular REMINGTON UMC trademark logo. The back of the box displays a GUARANTEE and GARANTIA in English and Spanish, listing compatible manufacturers such as Smith & Wesson, Colt, Winchester, Marlin, Savage, and Stevens, signed by The Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Company Inc. Individual cartridge headstamps are marked REM-UMC .44 BULL DOG. The interior of the box contains a small fragment of red and white patterned fabric used as packing material.
Condition report:
The cardboard box exhibits significant age-related wear, including scuffed edges, corner breaks, and substantial loss to the black marbled paper covering the base. The green top label remains mostly legible with some staining and light surface abrasion. The 16 rounds of ammunition show heavy white oxidation and lead blooming on the bullet surfaces, with the brass cases displaying a dark, uncleaned patina and areas of tarnish. The ammunition is sold as a collectible item and has not been tested for functionality.
