Description
This is a single vintage leg-o-mutton style breakdown shotgun case constructed from heavy-duty brown leather with brass hardware. Designed for the transport of a disassembled shotgun, the case features a top-loading design with a separate internal compartment to protect the barrel assembly and the stock. The exterior is equipped with a stitched leather carrying handle along the spine and metal rings for a shoulder strap, with a partial leather strap currently attached. Key markings include embossed numerals 28 and 30 located on a leather tab at the end cap, specifying the compatible barrel lengths for the case. The top lid is secured by a brass lock and an adjustable leather strap with a brass buckle. No manufacturer names or trade marks are visible on the exterior leather or the metal furniture.
Condition report:
The leather exterior shows significant overall wear and age-related degradation, characterized by widespread scuffing, scratches, and prominent cracking along the edges, lid hinge, and straps. The leather appears dry and has lost some of its original finish in high-wear areas. The brass hardware exhibits surface oxidation and a dark patina consistent with long-term storage.
