Description
This lot features a full box of fifty cartridges of .38 Short Rimfire ammunition produced by the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. at the Union Metallic Cartridge Works in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The two-piece cardboard box is wrapped in diagonal striped paper and retains a blue-green top label featuring the manufacturer red logo. Transcription of the label markings includes .38 SHORT R. F., 50 CARTRIDGES, and 125 GRS. BULLET, along with the manufacturer name and location. The underside of the box contains a bilingual guarantee in English and Spanish, specifically noting compatibility with firearms from Remington-UMC, Smith & Wesson, Colt, Winchester, Marlin, Savage, and Stevens. A purple date stamp on the bottom is partially legible as DEC 19. The cartridges feature brass rimfire casings with a U headstamp and lead bullets. The lead projectiles show heavy white oxidation and the metallic cases exhibit a dark aged patina throughout.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard container shows significant age-related wear, including surface staining, corner fraying, and minor paper loss along the edges. The label remains largely legible with some fading and minor abrasions. The ammunition is in an aged state; the lead bullets exhibit a heavy layer of white oxidation bloom, and the brass cases have developed a dark tarnish and spots of surface corrosion. The rounds appear to be live and are intended for collectible or display purposes.
