Description

This lot consists of a collection of 330 rounds of vintage .22 caliber rimfire ammunition manufactured by Western and Winchester. The grouping features a variety of loads and specifications, including .22 Long Rifle, .22 Short, .22 Winchester Magnum Rim Fire (WMR), and black powder blanks. Specific boxes identified in the collection include 40-count boxes of Western Super-X .22 Long Rifle Hollow Point, multiple 50-count boxes of Western Super-X and Western Xpert .22 Long Rifle, a box of Western .22 Winchester Magnum Rim Fire Jacketed Hollow Point, and a box of Winchester .22 Short Black Powder Extra Loud blanks. Prominent verbatim markings on the packaging include Western Super-X 22 Long Rifle HP 40 Rimfire Cartridges, Western Xpert 22 Long Rifle Greased, and Western Super-X Rim Fire Cartridges. Detailed inspection of the cartridges reveals brass cases with two distinct headstamp styles: the Super-X rounds bear the word SUPER in a horizontal bar over a large H symbol, while the Xpert rounds feature an incised diamond mark.

Condition report:

The ammunition is in overall vintage condition. The brass cartridge cases show varying levels of age-related tarnish and light surface oxidation. The lead projectiles exhibit common white oxidation, often referred to as lead bloom, consistent with long-term storage in a variety of environments. The cardboard packaging exhibits moderate to heavy shelf wear, characterized by creased edges, corner fraying, surface staining, and some partial tears to the closure flaps. One box retains a vintage orange retail price sticker. The ammunition appears to be live and original to the packaging, though it is sold as a collectible item and we have not function-tested any of the cartridges.
