Description
A vintage Lyman No. 2 tang-mounted windgauge peep sight, designed for use on various lever-action or single-shot rifles. This steel accessory features a folding upright stem with a knurled elevation sleeve graduated with numeric markings 2, 4, 6, and 8. The base assembly is equipped with a micrometer-style windage adjustment knob and a corresponding graduated scale for horizontal alignment. The flat underside of the mounting base is stamped with maker and model marks, reading LYMAN on the left and NO 2 on the right. The base is configured with two pre-drilled holes for mounting to a rifle tang. The unit includes a folding aperture and a spring-loaded detent mechanism for the folding stem.
Condition report:
The sight exhibits a significant aged patina with widespread surface oxidation and light pitting consistent with age and field use. Much of the original finish has worn away. The knurling on the elevation sleeve and adjustment knobs shows wear but remains functional. The mechanical folding mechanism and adjustment threads appear to operate correctly.
