Description
This Winchester Model 47 is a bolt-action, single-shot rifle chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges. Featuring a 25-inch round barrel with a blued finish, this model was designed as a high-quality sporting arm that automatically engages the safety when the bolt is cycled. The receiver and barrel both bear the Winchester WP proof marks in ovals, and the rear of the receiver features a red safety indicator dot. The rifle is equipped with a one-piece walnut stock featuring a pistol grip and a smooth finish. It is fitted with an adjustable rear elevator leaf sight and a ramped front sight base that is missing its original hood. The butt is fitted with a black checkered composition plate marked with the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. logo. The barrel markings are transcribed verbatim as MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. – WINCHESTER – MODEL 47 – —U.S. OF AMERICA— —TRADE MARK— –22 S. L. OR L.R.–. In accordance with original production standards, no serial number is present on this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good condition, showing honest wear from use. The blued finish on the barrel and receiver remains largely intact but displays thinning, particularly at the muzzle, and areas of scattered light surface oxidation. The walnut stock exhibits various dings, minor indentations, and handling marks throughout, though it remains structurally sound with no significant cracks or repairs noted. The bore was not inspected but appears clear. The bolt action and trigger mechanism appear to function correctly, though the rifle has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The front sight hood is missing.
