Description
This lot comprises 42 rounds of vintage .22 Long rimfire ammunition manufactured by the Remington Arms Company, Inc. at the UMC Bridgeport Works. These cartridges utilize the semi-smokeless “Lesmok” powder charge, which was historically favored by marksmen for its accuracy and reduced barrel fouling during the early 20th century. The ammunition is presented in its original red and tan cardboard packaging, which features a detailed illustration of a .22 Long cartridge bearing a “U” headstamp and graphics of a Remington pump-action repeating rifle. Prominent markings on the box include the product designation .22 LONG R. F. LESMOK and 50 CARTRIDGES alongside the circular REMINGTON UMC trademark. The packaging further identifies the manufacturer as REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY, INC., AMMUNITION AND FIRE ARMS, UMC BRIDGEPORT WORKS, with locations listed in NEW YORK, BRIDGEPORT, CONN., U.S.A., and LONDON. Condition report:
The cardboard box is in fair condition, showing significant wear to the corners and edges, fraying at the opening flaps, and a large area of moisture staining across the reverse panel. The ammunition is in poor condition; the 42 rounds exhibit heavy white oxidation on the lead bullets and dark corrosion with a thick aged patina and spots of verdigris on the brass casings. While the cartridges appear to be live, their functional reliability is severely compromised by age and visible degradation. This lot is intended for historical display or as a collectible accessory rather than for use.
