Description
This lot features a collection of 36 rounds of mixed .32-40 caliber center fire ammunition, a chambering primarily utilized in Winchester, Marlin, and Ballard rifles. The cartridges are accompanied by vintage packaging, including a red and yellow Winchester Repeating Arms Co. two-piece box and a separate cardboard tray with an inner divider from the Union Metallic Cartridge Co. The Winchester box is marked with the company logo and WINCHESTER, TRADE MARK, 32-40 WINCHESTER, and 20 CENTER FIRE CARTRIDGES STAYNLESS NON-MERCURIC, while the U.M.C. tray retains a partially legible guarantee label listing compatibility with arms manufactured by Colt, Winchester, Marlin, Bullard, Whitney, Smith & Wesson, Ballard, Stevens, and Remington. Verbatim headstamps observed on the cartridges include U.M.C. S H 32-40, REM-UMC 32-40, and W.R.A. Co. 32-40. The cartridges feature brass cases and lead bullets. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The ammunition and packaging are in vintage, aged condition. The cartridges show significant age-related wear, with heavy greenish-blue verdigris present on several of the brass cases and white oxidation on the lead bullets. The primers are intact, but the ammunition is sold for collectible purposes only and has not been tested for functionality. The Winchester box exhibits moderate wear including scuffing, edge fraying, and staining. The U.M.C. tray shows heavy wear with tearing and losses to the paper label and inner cardboard dividers.
