Gun Collectors Dream Auction #86 Collector Auction
Lot 1256:
Description
This lot features a pair of vintage leather western-style revolver holsters showcasing distinct styles of traditional leathercraft. The first holster is crafted from dark brown leather with tooled linear and sawtooth patterns, finished with whip-stitched edges and a single snap-closure retaining strap. The second holster exhibits more intricate floral scrollwork tooling, highlighted by a heavy, light-brown braided leather border. This larger holster includes a wide retaining strap with a large patinated metal snap, an adjustable strap with a small metal buckle, and a wide leather backing plate featuring four metal eyelets. Neither holster displays visible manufacturer markings, stamps, or model inscriptions. Both pieces show evidence of extensive field use and characteristics consistent with mid-20th-century Western saddlery.
Condition report:
Both holsters are in used condition, showing significant wear, surface scuffing, and areas of leather dryness. The metal hardware, including the snaps and buckle, shows heavy oxidation and a natural aged patina. The leather backing plate on the floral holster shows tearing and structural wear near the eyelets. The interiors show expected wear and darkening from use. The braided border on the floral holster remains largely intact but shows surface abrasions.
