Description
This is a Remington Model 24 semi-automatic takedown rifle chambered for .22 Long Rifle. This John Browning design features a 19 inch barrel and a tubular magazine housed within the buttstock, loaded through a port on the right side of the stock. The rifle is constructed with a blued steel receiver and barrel, complemented by a smooth walnut stock and forend. Key markings on the left side of the receiver include the model designation MODEL 24 stamped above serial number 111885. The top of the barrel is marked with a script Remington logo and a two-line address reading REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY, INC., SUCCESSOR TO THE REMINGTON ARMS U. M. C. CO. INC., REMINGTON ILION WKS. ILION, N. Y. U. S. A. BROWNINGS PATENT OCT. 24, 1916. The left side of the barrel specifies the chambering as .22 LONG RIFLE ONLY-SMOKELESS-GREASED, while the right side displays a BZ9 date code. The left side of the receiver contains four non-factory drilled and tapped holes, likely from a previous side-mount optic. The rifle is fitted with a standard front post sight and an aftermarket Lyman tang-mounted aperture sight. The metal buttplate is stamped with the REMINGTON UMC trademark logo. Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain a fair amount of original bluing, with visible thinning and wear on the receiver and along the barrel. There are several scratches on the left side of the receiver surrounding the non-factory drilled holes. The bore is bright with well-defined rifling. The walnut stock and forend are in good condition, showing typical light dings, shallow scratches, and handling marks consistent with age, but no major cracks are visible. The action appears to function correctly, and the takedown mechanism remains tight. The aftermarket Lyman tang sight is intact and functional.
