Description
This collection of bronze commemorative medals includes a series honoring the Western artist Frederic Remington and a corporate anniversary piece. The Remington medals, struck in two sizes, feature an obverse with a profile portrait and the legend Frederic Remington FOREMOST PORTRAYER of our WESTERN HERITAGE. The reverses depict various iconic sculptural works with original casting dates, including THE BRONCO BUSTER (Oct. 1895), THE SCALP (December 1898), THE FALLEN RIDER (December 1898), THE NORTHER (July 1900), THE CHEYENNE (1901), COMING THROUGH THE RYE (October 1902), THE SERGEANT (1904), THE RATTLESNAKE (Jan 1905), and THE OUTLAW (May 1906). Many reverse designs include the MACO mint mark for the Medallic Art Company. The collection also contains a large bronze medal for the SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY 1855-1930 of CRANE CO., featuring founder R.T. CRANE on the obverse and a view of CHICAGO with a factory complex and log cabin on the reverse. The Crane medal is marked MEDALLIC ART CO. N.Y. on the reverse lower edge. The Frederic Remington series reproduces his most famous bronzes cast between 1895 and 1906.
Condition report:
Extremely fine. The medals display an aged bronze patina with attractive uniform toning. Minor surface wear and scattered contact marks are visible, consistent with handling and storage. Several smaller medals are housed in clear plastic pouches.
