Description
This lot consists of 27 rounds of Western Cartridge Company .38-40 Winchester center fire ammunition housed in a vintage two-piece cardboard box. The cartridges are loaded with 180 grain Lubaloy soft point bullets featuring non-corrosive priming and smokeless powder. The box utilizes the classic blue and yellow Bullseye target design with red script Western branding. Markings on the top of the box include Western Cartridges and a target graphic, while side panels are marked 38-40 Winchester 180 Grain Soft Point Lubaloy Bullet and Non-Corrosive Priming-Smokeless Powder. Headstamps on the brass cases are transcribed verbatim as W.C. CO. 38-40. The ammunition consists of brass casings with exposed lead soft point tips. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The two-piece cardboard box exhibits significant wear consistent with age, including frayed edges, split corners, and surface toning. The blue and yellow printed graphics remain mostly legible despite some surface staining and fading. The cartridges show surface oxidation on the lead soft point tips, while the brass cases display a natural aged patina with some localized darkening. The primers appear intact and unspent.
