Description
James Earle Fraser (1876-1953), End of the Trail. This cast bronze sculpture is finished with a dark brown patina and depicts a slumped Native American warrior seated atop an exhausted horse. The figure leans forward with his head bowed, holding a spear that points toward the ground, while the horse is posed with its head low and tail tucked, conveying a sense of profound fatigue. The rocky terrain of the bronze base includes an incised signature reading Fraser on the side. The sculpture is mounted on a separate, tiered, oval gray and black veined marble plinth. A rectangular brass plaque with rounded ends is affixed to the front of the marble base and is inscribed END OF THE TRAIL BY FRASER in black lettering.

Condition report:
The sculpture is in good overall condition. The dark brown patina shows minor surface wear and scattered light-colored deposits, primarily on the lower sections of the horse and the bronze base. The marble plinth and brass plaque appear well-preserved with no visible cracks, chips, or structural repairs.
